Projects

Big projects are assigned by the Core Contributors to be executed by a single or multiple people. Such big projects often come associated with a budget, be it through grants or through postmarketOS funds.

Project management

Projects must have somebody associated with it doing project management. This has been a requirement after experience has shown a fewer chances of success in projects without it.

If the project is financed, be it through grants or through postmarketOS own expenses, there should be budget allocated to project management. This is to make sure that everybody with responsibility in the project is compensated. To avoid unnecessary overhead, project management-related expenses in a project are limited to a maximum of 20% of the development expenses.

Responsibilities

Project managers are responsible for:

• Making sure the funds are used according to the project plan.

• Providing monthly written or verbal reports to the Team Meetings.

• The execution of the project budget. Over or under execution should be notified, as soon as detected, to the Team Meetings.

• Providing explanations for the Board to be able to make informed decisions about expenses charged related to projects. See the expenditure policy for more details.
